It's been sometime since there has been a post in English on this blog. So here it is.....
Thanks to Stephen, founder of www.dairymoos.com for permissions to reproduce. His blog is very insightful source filled with informative articles on US Dairy industry. Below short post on his blog drew my attention because of one word : "Hindoo".
It is heartening to see that pioneers of the dairy industry in the USA, seven oceans apart, were well aware about the Hindu/Indian ways of life 125+ years ago. For the readers in India, W.D. Hoard referred below was an American politician, a newspaper editor, and the 16th Governor of the U.S. state of Wisconsin from 1889 to 1891. Not only Mr. Hoard was an informed human about world that was nearly not as connected as it is today. He was likely among the first few Americans who thought of cows as mothers before they become synonymous with primary meat source in the West.
W.D. Hoard, founder of one of the oldest and well known dairy magazines,
penned a tribute to the dairy cow and recognized the dairy cow as being
the foster mother of the human race when he wrote:
As a
dairyman, I think it would be appropriate to also recognize the
contributions that these foster mothers have made to human society in
this time when we are celebrating Mothers Day.

“The
cow is the foster mother of the human race. From the time of the
ancient Hindoo to this time have the thoughts of men turned to this
kindly and beneficent creature as one of the chief sustaining forces of
the human race” – W.D. Hoard
