Gatka - Sikh Martial arts

Having watched almost every Jackie Chan movie in childhood, its no wonder that fascination with action movies still continues. After all these years of watching these movies, the question lingers in mind is that do we not have Indian forms/techniques of martial arts that are equally lethal and awe-inspiring as Kung-Fu or Karate? Well, thankfully the answer is YES! (You aren't first one to be surprised!) Our school curriculum that has trite explanation about our country's diversity should have taught us about these various fighting techniques/art that has been preserved over centuries in many parts of our country. As a matter of fact researched material suggests Chinese martial arts is in all likelyhood derivation of these old Bharatiya (carefully avoiding saying Indian) traditions. These traditions include art of fighting using lethal weapons such as swords and bows, hand to hand combat and self-defence with wooden sticks. If you truly have passion for combat techniques,self-defence methods or simply interest in exploring more, by now you are curious to read the names of these Bharatiya martial arts techniques. "Thang-Ta", "Gatka", and "kalarippayattu" are some of the methods among many and more popularly practised even today. These methods come from the states of Manipur, Punjab and Kerala respectively. You all can now explore more about all these methods and in general about Indian Martial Arts starting with this link. But, before you go, do check out this video below which briefly introduces Gatka. We need strong people that makes our country strong. Perhaps one of us should suggest progressive CM like Mr. Narendra Modi to instate such physical education in schools.(Brought up Mr. Modi here since he is credited with bringing game of Chess in to every classroom of schools of Gujarat)

Think about Incredible India !!
Folks,
Received the following as a forward. A kind of forward that would give your brain a run on idle Friday afternoon in office. Even if these are funny/silly thoughts to some, they are undeniable and perhaps makes us re-think, is our beloved motherland India indeed incredible? Are we making any hard attempts to take the phrase "Incredible India" out of books and in to the lives of an average Indian? Please share your ideas/comments.
We live in a nation where Rice is Rs.40/- per kg and mobile phone Sim Card is free. Pizza reaches home faster than Ambulance and Police. Car loan offered @ 5% but education loan @ 12%. Students with 45% get in elite institutions through quota system and those with 90% marks stay out because of limited seats in open category.
2 IPL teams are auctioned at 3300 crores and we are still a poor country where more than 300 million people starve for 2 tiny meals EVERY day. Assembly and shopping complex buildings are getting ready within one year while public transport construction projects such as bridges, roads takes several years to be completed.
THINK ABOUT IT.
INCREDIBLE INDIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do your part and whatever your capacity is so we can honestly, without any reservations say our motherland India is indeed incredible.

Secure Gujarat, Secure India
Being one of the border states to nation's arch-rival,Gujarat or it's Police force cannot afford to be caught off guard how Maharashtra Police was on the gory eve of 26/11. Had MPD officers/constables better equipped to face terrorists with advance weapon systems, total number of casualties would have been far lesser. It must be acknowledged,at present being on exceptional high growth trajectory and being internationally acclaimed as most successful state run by Hindu Nationalist BJP and its most potent leader Shri Narendra Modi, it is an eyesore for large population of hate-mongering Pakistanis. These are the people having soft corner for Talibanis fighting US-NATO allied forces as well as Jihadi's fighting against India. Gujarat is also home to nations vital assets such as Hajira based Reliance refinery,ISRO,The Sardar Sarovar Dam and more.Keeping these as well as regular intel reports in mind, Gujarat being pro-active state(that it is) is leaving no stone unturned to assure safety of its citizen. The latest welcome step is the news you might have missed because our main stream media(NDTV, CNN-IBN)is busy carrying non-sense news such as Shoaib-Sania drama or Tharoor-Modi IPL drama. There is no space for real news in those media houses...So here it goes..Courtesy Asian Defence.
Gujarat police to procure 4000 INSAS rifles
In a bid to equip its police force with modern weapons, Gujarat police would be acquiring 4000 Indian Small Arms System (INSAS)rifles in October this year. "We procured 2,000 INSAS rifles in 2008-09 and will be getting 4,000 more in coming October. INSAS rifles are mostly used by BSF, CRPF and para military forces," a state home department official said. He also said that the state's pending demand for 12 more marine police stations is likely to be approved by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Currently, there are 10 marine police stations in the state, along the 1600-km-long coast line.
On various plans to strengthen the state's security apparatus, the official said that in last two years, around 5,000 posts in the police force have been created with the addition of State Reserved Police (SRP) battalions. "We created around 5,000 new posts in the force. Moreover, we will add four more chetak commando units next year," he said. "Currently, we have two Chetak commando units, which is based on NSG model and two more will be added this year while we plan to double it by next year, and then the commando units will be spread across the state and stationed in Saurashtra, Kutch and South Gujarat," he said.
Each chetak commando unit has 120 commandos which are trained extensively. "One commando unit is under training at Jodhpur and subsequently, that unit will be sent for advanced training in jungle warfare," the official said, adding "we strictly follow the age and physical fitness standards in the commando units."

Thoughts of Jaymin Panchal on MF Hussain.
Friends,
Today we have with us Mr. Jaymin Panchal sharing his thoughts on recent controversy over artist MF Hussain and his surrendering of Indian citizenship. Mr. Panchal is part of popular "Internet Hindus" group on interactive site twitter.com which is raising razor sharp questions about today's Indian English media's credibility and partisan views. Most Indian well-known Indian English journalists present on twitter have so far carefully escaped answering questions raised by "Internet Hindus". Please send in your comments if you would like to learn more about this group. Also please share your views on the article with our guest columnist via comments.
By Jaymin Panchal,
At the outset, This blog is written by a Proud HINDU who is Indian first. Also the thoughts presented here are by no means mixed with religious inclination.
“An artist thinks ahead of time.”- Hussain. He is right, I do agree with him. An artist with his thought at higher bar from society always gives direction to society. Leonardo da Vinci, when he painted Mona LISA wanted to convey through smile of lady the kind of mythic embodiment of eternal femininity. He had the message and the reason for Mona LISA painting is still considered to be greatest art. Take another recent example of Taslima, when she should be supported for her idea towards freeing women is something to admire of. Her writings too has message for the society. An art is above all religion. It is to be respected beyond boundaries of religion or ideology. But an artist too has some responsibilities, no TOM, DICK or Harry and Harry’s brother can use art as disguise to project his dirt filled mind.
If Hussain believes his art of uncivilized portrait of GODDESS has some message or meaning, why has he not come out and explained it. Just by using parallels of other great artist one can never get away from his nonsense work.
Hussain is not targeted because he is a muslim or old artist, but because he insulted GOD. The intellectual media who tries to protect him saying he is old man and is targeted since he is minority (read muslim) should be ashamed. For I can assure, had the artist been HARICHAND or HIRALAL, the agitation would have been much stronger. The media is to understand, when a mother is insulted you don’t go out to check the nationality or religion of the culprit.
The media comes out with the idea of freedom of expression/ freedom of thoughts / freedom of art, this is just hogwash. Will any of the intellectual allow any of their loved one to be painted NUDE and will they applaud the painting as art (without taking consent of the concerned person).
Right always comes with responsibility, and without responsibility it is abuse of the power and right. Hussain in his capacity painted what he thought, but it was no more than an insult leave aside calling it a art. If he has message or idea behind this painting, which I guess would be as dirty as the person is he, but still let him convey what he wanted to say through the painting.
An artist has to be a good human first, if he insulted the feeling of GOD, and not the myths on blind faith traditions. At this point I would also add that the manner of protest against him was wrong, violent protest is by no means a civilized way. The culprit protestors should be punished, but first Hussain has to be brought back and tried and if possible be given a sentence.
The media is stooped and hypocritical to the core, while if foreign advertisers use the GOD and GODDESS figure on the product or even use GANHIJI as tool of promotion is considered as insult by media. At times they also show GOD in uncivilized manner on shoes or holding cigarettes. Why don’t they give discount to creative advertisers that freedom of expression? Or do media believe that only Indians should insult India Or is it like only pseudo great artist people get the license to insult India.
Disclaimer – I oppose vehemently advertiser playing with religious feeling of any human being.
I am just afraid, these pseudo intellectuals will soon start advocating for PORN as form of expression and art. And if GODESS are to be painted nude, then y der is hue and cry over morphed nudity of celebrity, Hussain didnt took the permission of GOD to paint them nude so does these cyber criminals will not take permission and paint any 1 nude and circulate in name of art. I am not at all advocating this kind of acts, but just making media and pseudo intellectuals what an abuse of "FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION can lead to
A monkey face of Micelle Obama is racism, a rant against Shilpa Shetty is racism but the belief in GOD to painted NUDE is art .... WTF, media when will you be using your mind
Certain political party is up in hands to bring back hussain and are advocating freedom of art, my question will they allow Hussain to paint their party leader in uncivilized manner and frame it in every party office? They can’t take a word against their party leader and goes on crying foul, but an insult to GOD of million believers is just an art.
If Freedom of expression is advocated sooo much; then anti-social people giving out hate speeches will also use this right to advocate their notions. The Babri Masjid demolition is crime; it can also be advocated freedom of expression and thought. Can media understand the fallout of their narrow mind and narrow thinking to grab TRP by supporting wrong cause.
I would say get real man! Understand the fine line between progressive thinking and an insult. Everyone has freedom of thought and expression but kindly use it wisely, Its not to please millions and masses, but if your thoughts are revolutionary get up and explain, just by being an artist and you insult and think of getting away is nonsense. I do agree, we should get back Hussain to kick his a$$. A example for other people to understand, that while we salute path breaking thoughts of Taslima we can kick a$$ of person insulting our mother
