ચાર  વર્ષ પહેલાં, ૨૬/૧૧ ના હુમલા બાદ, ભારતના ત્રણે સશસ્ત્ર દળના વડાઓએ તત્કાળ સંરક્ષણ મંત્રાલયને પત્ર મોકલ્યો કે જેમાં સાધન-સરંજામ અને પુરવઠાની અછત વિષે વિસ્તારથી માહિતી હતી કે જેના વગર લશ્કર બુઠા ચપ્પાંની જેમ બિન-અસરકારક હતું. વડાઓએ ગોળ-ગોળ વાતો કરવાને બદલે રાજકારણીઓ અને ઉચ્ચ સરકારી અધિકારીઓને સ્પષ્ટ શબ્દોમાં જણાવ્યું હતું કે વર્ષોની પડતર માંગણીઓ બાદ પણ તમે અત્યંત પાયાના જરૂરી સાધનો ઉપલબ્ધ કરાવવામાં નિષ્ફળ રહ્યાં છો તો અમને કોઈ પણ કામ સોંપતા પહેલાં સો વાર વિચાર કરજો.

પાકિસ્તાની  લશ્કરી વડાઓ આ વાતથી સુપેરે પરિચિત છે કે ભારતીય લશ્કર મેદાને પડવા અક્ષમ છે. આવું નિવેદન કરીને હું કોઈ પણ પ્રકારની ગુપ્ત માહિતી જાહેર નથી કરી રહ્યો. પાકિસ્તાનની ISI સહિત,દુનિયાના દરેક દેશની લશ્કરી ગુપ્તચર સંસ્થા જાણે છે કે ભારતીય લશ્કરમાં ટેન્કોના દારૂગોળાની તીવ્ર અછત છે, ભારતની ટેન્કો રતાંધળી છે,ભારત પાસે આધુનિક તોપખાનું(આર્ટીલરી) નથી,જરી-પુરાણું હવાઈ-હુમલાથી સુરક્ષા માટેનું નેટવર્ક છે. ટૂંકમાં કહીએ તો તે દરેક નિર્ધારિત પરિમાણ કે જેનાથી કોઈ પણ લશ્કરની યુદ્ધ માટેની સુસજ્જતા મપાય છે તેમાં આપણે અછતનો સામનો કરી રહ્યાં છીએ.  આ વાતો ગુપ્ત છે તો માત્ર મારા અને તમારાથી, આ દેશના નાગરિકોથી, કે જેઓ લાગણીવશ થઈને લશ્કરને હંમેશા ટેકો કરે છે અને પોતાના દીકરા/દીકરીઓને કુરબાન થવા હોંશે-હોંશે મોકલે છે (અને ઘણી વાર ખોટા કારણોના લીધે કુરબાની વહોરે છે)

દેશપ્રેમી  લોકો કહેશે ખોટી વાત છે, આપણું લશ્કર સુસજ્જ છે અને કાશ્મીર અને ઉત્તર-પૂર્વના રાજ્યોમાં ચાલી રહેલી દેશ-વિરોધી પ્રવૃતિઓ સામે આપણા લશ્કરની સફળતાના દાખલા આપશે. પણ ભલા માણસ, રડ્યા-ખડ્યા ૫૦૦/૧૦૦૦ આતંકવાદીઓ સામે લડવા અને કોઈ બીજા દેશ સામે સીધું યુદ્ધ લડવામાં આસમાન-જમીનનો ફરક છે. આતંકવાદીઓ સામે લડવા માટે ચપળ અને સ્ફૂર્તિલા પાયદળની જરૂર પડે જે આપણી પાસે છે અને તે સક્ષમ છે. પણ એક સંપૂર્ણ યુદ્ધ માટે બીજી ઘણી-ઘણી બધી જરૂરિયાત હોય છે. આપણા દળો, આપણું તોપખાનું, આપણા યુદ્ધ ઇજનેરો, હવાઈ-હુમલાની ચેતવણી/આગાહી કરતાં નેટવર્કો, શસ્ત્ર-સરંજામની હેર-ફેર માટેની વ્યવસ્થા બધું જ કથળેલું છે. કારગીલ યુદ્ધ કે જે એક ખૂબ જ નાના અને સીમિત ક્ષેત્રમાં લડાયેલું એમાં આપણી પાસે રહેલી સઘળી, હા સાહેબ સઘળી તોપોને કામે લગાડવી પડી હતી. ત્યારે જઈને આપણે આપણી જમીન પરથી દુશ્મનને પાછો ધકેલી શક્યા. જરા વિચારો કે જો યુદ્ધ વધી ગયું હોત અને રાજસ્થાન,પંજાબ અને ગુજરાતની સરહદો સળગી હોત તો વધારાની તોપો ક્યાંથી લાવત? અને ના કરે નારાયણ કોઈ દિવસ આપણી ચીન અને પાકિસ્તાન સાથેની સરહદો એકસાથે સળગી તો આપણે કેવી રીતે લડશું? આપણા જવાનો શું તલવારો લઈને દુશ્મનની તોપોનો સામનો કરશે? ૧૯૯૯માં કારગીલ યુદ્ધ વખતે આ સ્થિતિ હતી, ૨૦૦૧માં સંસદ પરના હુમલા પછી જે ઓપરેશન પરાક્રમ શરૂ થયું હતું ત્યારે આ સ્થિતિ હતી, ચાર વર્ષ પહેલાં ૨૬/૧૧નો હુમલો થયો ત્યારે આ સ્થિતિ હતી અને આજે પણ આ જ સ્થિતિ છે. (ભાષાનુવાદ કરનારના મત પ્રમાણે કદાચ એટલે જ ૧૯૯૯ દરમ્યાન એ વખતના તત્કાલીન વડા-પ્રધાન શ્રી વાજપેયીજી કારગીલ યુદ્ધ લંબાવીને આખે-આખું કાશ્મીર પાછું જીતી લેવાનું સ્વપન પૂરું ના કરી શક્યા. અને એટલે જ સંસદ પરના અને ૨૬/૧૧ના મુંબઈ પરના અત્યંત ઘાતક હુમલા પછી પણ આપણા નેતાઓ પાકિસ્તાનને 'પાઠ' ભણાવવા માટે કોઈ નક્કર કાર્યવાહી કરી શક્યા નહિ. માત્ર વાતોના વડા કરવામાં આવ્યા અને પાકિસ્તાનને એક જવાબદાર રાષ્ટ્ર તરીકે વર્તવા માટે આજીજી કરવામાં આવી.)

આવી વિકટ પરિસ્થિતિ પણ  કોઈના પેટનું પાણી હાલતું નથી કારણકે 

૧) આપણા લશ્કરી વડાઓ(જનરલ કક્ષાના) અછતની વાતોને આપણા જવાંમર્દ સૈનિકોની શૌર્યકથાઓની નીચે દબાવી દે છે. 

૨) છાપાવાળા બહુ ઊંડો રસ લેતા નથી. હાલનો કોઈ પણ છાપાનો અહેવાલ વાંચો. ૧૯૬૨માં આપણો કારમો પરાજય થયો હતો તો પણ લશ્કરનો વાંક છે એવું કોઈ કહેતું નથી. જવાહરલાલ નહેરુ, કૃષ્ણ મેણણ અને બી.કે. મલિકને દોષ આપવામાં આવે છે. દાખલા તરીકે જો કોઈ લશ્કરી જનરલ એમ કહીને રાજીનામું આપી દે કે જે લશ્કરના જવાનોને લડવા માટે અત્યંત જરૂરી એવી મૂળભૂત સાધન-સામગ્રી ના આપવામાં આવતી હોય એવા લશ્કરની મારે આગેવાની કરવી નથી તો સાલા કોઈ રાજકારણીની તાકાત છે કે આપણા લશ્કરી વડાને અવગણે? હા, ૧૯૫૯માં ભૂમિ-દળના વડા શ્રી કે.એસ. થામૈયાએ આવું કરવા પ્રયત્ન કર્યો હતો અને નહેરુ પોતે એમને મનાવવા અને વાત થાળે પાડવા વચ્ચે પડ્યા હતા. 

લશકરી વડાઓ પોતે રાજીનામું નથી આપતા અને ઉહાપોહ નથી કરતાં એની પાછળ બે કારણો છે. એક તો એ કે આપણા રાજકારણીઓની જેમ જ એમને પણ સત્તા અને એના લીધે મળતા લાભ/ફાયદા છોડવાના વિચારથી જ કંપારી છૂટી જાય છે. અને એના કરતાં પણ વધારે એ કે તેઓ જાણે કે આવી વિકટ પરિસ્થિતિના નિર્માણ પાછળ રાજકારણી અને સરકારી અધિકારીઓ કરતાં લશ્કર પોતે ઘણું વધારે જવાબદાર છે.

અછત કેમ નિર્માણ થાય છે?

દાખલા તરીકે બખ્તરિયા લશ્કરી વાહનોનો વિભાગ કે જે આપણી ટેન્કો સંભાળે છે અને જેની ગણના આપણી ત્રણ સર્વશ્રેષ્ઠ આઘાત ટુકડીઓમાં થાય છે તે વિદેશી સામાન ખરીદવાનો આગ્રહ રાખે છે. (ખરી રીતે તો તેમણે સઘન પ્રયાસોથી તેમની જરૂરિયાતના સાધનોનો વિકાસ અને નિર્માણ ઘર-આંગણે કરવું જોઈએ) એટલે પછી માલ-સામાન સમયસર મળે ના મળે એ પારકા દેશની કૃપા પર અવલંબે છે.

આશ્ચર્યજનક છે કે થળ-સેનાએ(ભૂમિ-દળ) ૬૫ વર્ષોમાં કોઈ નક્કર સ્વદેશી બખ્તરનો સિધ્ધાંત કે દ્રષ્ટિકોણ વિકસાવ્યો નથી. ટચૂકડા દેશ ઇઝરાયેલ સહિત દરેક પોતાની જવાબદારીઓ માટે ગંભીર લશ્કર પોતાની સ્થાનિક અને ભૌગોલિક પરિસ્થિતિને ધ્યાનમાં લઈને ટેન્કો અને તેના બખ્તરો તૈયાર કરે છે. ઇઝરાયેલ માટે માનવ-સંસાધન(જવાનો)ની રક્ષા ખૂબ જ અગત્યની છે અને માટે જ તેમની ટેન્કો બહુજ ભારે એવા બખ્તરોથી(ટેન્કનું સુરક્ષા કવચ) લદાયેલી અને ધીમી હોય છે. તેમના માટે ટેંક કેટલી ઝડપથી કેટલું અંતર કાપે છે તેના કરતાં તેની અંદર બેઠેલા જવાનનો જીવ જોખમાય છે કે નહિ તે સવાલ ઘણો વધારે અગત્યનો છે. જયારે આપણી, રશિયન બનાવટની ટેન્કો, હલકાં બખ્તરવાળી, જે મૂળ યુરોપની સપાટ, વિશાળ જમીનો સર કરવા અને (One-time use and throw) એક વારમાં વાપરીને ફેંકી દેવાના ઇરાદાથી બનાવામાં આવી હતી તેની બખ્તર પ્રણાલી બહુ જ સવાલજનક છે. ભારતીય થળસેના કે જે દુનિયાની ચોથી સૌથી વિશાળ સેના છે અને જેની પાસે લગભગ ૪૦૦૦ ટેન્કો છે તેની પાસે ના તો કોઈ ચોક્કસ બખ્તર-પ્રણાલી છે ના તો આપણી જરૂરિયાત પ્રમાણેની  ટેન્કોની કલ્પના/રચના/નિર્માણ કરનાર ઇજનેરોની ટુકડી.

ભારત સરકારમાં જેટલા સેક્રેટરી કક્ષાના અધિકારી છે તેના કરતાં વધારે ભારતીય લશ્કરમાં જનરલો છે. પણ, સર્વોચ્ચ વડાથી લઈને લેફ્ટનન્ટ સુધી કોઈએ ભારતને અનુકુળ ટેન્કો અનેતેના બખ્તરની બાબત ઉપર જોર આપ્યું નથી. ઉલટાનું રશિયાની હાડ ગાળી નાંખે એવી ઠંડીથી બચવા માટે નિર્માણ થયેલી ટેન્કોને વાતાનુકુલિત બનાવવા પ્રયાસો થઇ રહ્યાં છે!!!( આ અટકળો છે, સાચી માહિતી લશ્કર પાસેથી પ્રાપ્ત નથી). જેઓ અર્જુન જેવી સ્વદેશી ટેન્કના પ્રયાસોને ટેકો કરે છે તેઓને  દિલ્હીમાં દેશ-વિરોધી અને રશિયાની તૈયાર ટેન્કોના આગ્રહી એવા જનરલોને દેશ-પપ્રેમીના તરીકે ઓળખાવાઈ રહ્યાં છે.

બખ્તર પ્રણાલી તૈયાર કરવી એ કોઈ બહુ મોટી પડકારજનક વાત નથી. માત્ર ત્રણ કાબેલ કર્નલો સાથે બેસીને અઠવાડિયામાં કરી શકે. તેમને જરૂર પડે માત્ર નીચેની માહિતીની. ભારતની સરહદોનું ભૂગોળ, યુદ્ધનો અંત અંગેની નીતિ,શત્રુઓ(અને તેમની ક્ષમતા)ની, આપણા લશ્કર પાસે ઉપલબ્ધ માનવ-બળ અને આપણા દેશમાં કારખાનાંઓની ઉત્પાદન ક્ષમતાની. પણ આપણા જનરલોની પેઢીઓની પેઢીઓ બહુ જ વ્યસ્ત હતી ભાઈ!  લશ્કરના વડાઓથી લઈને પ્લાનીંગ કરનારા ડિરેક્ટરો બધાં જ બહુ વ્યસ્ત છે. ટૂંકમાં બધાં જ છે નફિકરાં સાહેબો!! (ભગવાન આપણા જવાનોના જીવ બચાવે)

Christian Affront on Diwali

Let us embrace those of other faiths, but not at the expense of our own great tradition.

Since we are not too far from Diwali, this is a good time to read on what may very well repeat this year in New York city!

Ever since we were young we attended the annual Diwali mela at South Street Seaport. Each year our family drove in to downtown Manhattan from the surrounding suburbs. Breathing in the panoramic views of the Big Apple, with the backdrop of a glorious sunset, we knew an evening of live dance performances, puppet shows and a display of exquisite fireworks bursting on a blanket of stars was soon to follow. This was our idea of Diwali.
This celebration is special to me not only because it is the biggest Hindu celebration of the year, but also because it is a tradition that binds me to other Hindu and Sikh youth of the New York area. Nearly every year I have enjoyed the crowds, delicious food and divine music that is characteristic of the street fair. However, this year for the first time I came across a group who prominently identified themselves as Indian Christian missionaries. They came not for the purpose of enjoying the mela or for observing the sacredness of the occasion, but with the intention of converting Hindus and Sikhs to Christianity.
Among the other street vendors, this group set up a table to distribute Christian literature and free water to passersby. One person among them brought color-coordinated T-shirts proclaiming that Jesus is the only one. As the day progressed, the growing number of motivated evangelists infiltrated the crowds in the streets.
For much of the afternoon I saw them mobbing innocent visitors, foisting upon them bottled water and literature. I was handed a pamphlet by two men, one of them asking if I was interested in attaining peace. I accepted the literature and briefly perused it before asking them why they were preaching Christianity at a Diwali mela. One of the men rudely responded that America is a free country and that he had the right to freedom of speech. His counterpart cited the technicality that Diwali was over three weeks away and arrogantly added that his presence was not disturbing anyone because this was a community event open to everyone. I eventually told one of them that I was very happy being Hindu, to which he replied, “I’m here to offer you something better.” Turned off and insulted, I ended the conversation, indicating to them that their presence was unwarranted and their aggressive propagation of Christianity on such a noble occasion was impolite and indecent.
The competitive antagonism brought by the missionaries detracted from our festive celebration of the festival of lights as they made efforts to persuade members of our community to attend church and eventually convert to Christianity. Coerced conversion of faith is fundamentally offensive to the benevolent and peaceful dharmic traditions. While we as a unified community are pluralistic in our beliefs and encourage diversity amongst ourselves, we cannot welcome people who alienate us from our native ancestry and intend to annihilate a tradition that is thousands of years old.
We cannot continue to be so accepting of other schools of thought that we compromise the principles that allow our own people to flourish and our own faith to be nourished. Hindu and Sikh American youth need the opportunity to explore our culture and beliefs and to enjoy our festivals without facing intimidation by those who wish to lure them toward a belief system that does not accept our tradition’s antiquity, greatness and accepting nature.
On the auspicious occasion of Diwali, let us propagate the true spirit of love and embrace our brothers and sisters, be they of different faiths, on the condition that we are venerated to a degree that is commensurate with our benevolent outlook of love and acceptance for all.

Tidbits on our ex-president Pratibha Patil

Entire nation stood up with awe and pride on 25th of July,2007 when Mrs. Pratibha Devisingh Patil was sworn in as the first woman president of our nation,myself included. Boasting this in lunch discussions with my non-Indian colleagues was heart-warming. I even shared pictures of her in that elegantly drapped Indian Sari(Sadi) with female colleagues. That euphoria started to wane as I started researching about her credentials and accomplishments. Until then, I had never put efforts to learn about her. The only thing I knew was that she was associated with Indian National Congress.

Here are my findings. (Links to support the claims are provided with every point below)

1) She is married to a man who is "FOUND GUILTY" BY Court of appropriating a farmer's land.

2) She is married to a man, DeviSingh Patil, prime accused in a case of abetment to suicide of Kisan Dhage, a school teacher.

3) She is sister of GN Patil,accused by Rajni Patil, widow of slained Jalgaon Congress president Vishram G Patil of hatching the murder conspiracy. She accused of shielding her brother. Interestingly Times of India actually carried this story at first and later removed. (Of course Paid media magic my friend.) Here is the old URL link on which the story was originally published. 4) Unless you know/read/heard/watched how forced religious conversions of poor tribal Hindus to Christianity is a major issue having real possibilities of triggering communal disturbances and administrative challenges in many Indian states, you may not comprehend seriousness of this issue. She was the one who REFUSED to sign anti-conversion law in Rajasthan, effectively nullifying it, as mentioned in the International Religious Freedom Report 2007 by the U.S. Department of State below.

"The Governor of Rajasthan, later elevated to the Presidency, refused to sign her State's anti-conversion law, effectively nullifying it."

5) She is the one having gone on mercy overdrive and commuted(to reduce) the death sentences of 35 petitioners to life to those who are convicted of mass murder, kidnapping, rape and killing of children -a record by any president.

Dear Mrs. Patil, better late than never, I strongly protest discrimination on behalf of Afzal Guru.

The message is that ours is banana republic. You are free to loot/arson/plunder/rape/kill/molest this massive and passive less privileged lot of humans. Criminals may start worshiping Pratibha Mataji for her unbound kindness and love. Dear criminals, I will happily provide financial support if you would like to build a temple to worship Her. Rest of the folks, watch out for more Goa type episodes.

6) She is classic case of pro-dynasty politicians with unprecedented no holds barred on spending public funds for grand-kids! YES! I am not joking. And it even gets better. Mr. Syed Akbaruddin, the spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs defends her citing Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari OR Mr. 10 percent as the world knows him. (Thank you dear Akbar for just comparison. I know we read each others tweets with utmost attention.)

7) She is the first president to complain about "smaller" living place allotted to her after stepping down. I concur, 8 rooms & 100 yards garden is not big enough.(Living in a mansion of 340 rooms for half a decade would easily spoil any mortal, why blame her!)

One may ask what is the point of such seemingly hit-job post, especially now that she has demitted from office. Well for one, it strengthens the anecdote that the more financially/morally/ethically corrupt you are, better are your chances of hierarchical advancement in nation's largest and oldest political party,Indian National Congress. (You cannot ask for a mansion larger than 340 rooms, at least not that I know of in Bharat. Vilasrao Deshmukh, Shivraj Patil many more examples available)

More importantly, we are a nation of passive/ignorant/irresponsible/callous electorate who has spectacularly failed in it's duty to keep politics clear of tainted leaders to the extent that one such leader was able to become first citizen of our Republic - AND - finish her tenure. Shame!

With that I wait for someone to create such list for our new president, hopefully sooner than later. Yeh Indiyaah hai mere yaar. Everything is possible!

Mautam - Rats,Mizoram, Bamboo and more....

It did not strike until watching this documentary all the way up to the end. Actually it did not strike even after I finished the documentary. It struck when I started typing the word "Mautam" and missed character 'u' in there accidentally. Yes, read it now. It's "Matam". It was a Robert Langdon moment for me. The catastrophic phenomenon that you are about to learn from this video is named simply based on the after effect it creates. Word 'Matam'(मातम) means mourning in Hindi, the language of mainland. Though Church succeeded in proselytizing the native Hindu population of Mizoram over past 30 years using dirty tricks and implicit support from deeply anti-secular(read anti-constitutional) governments (mostly headed by corrupt Congress party), it could not wipe out the words in the local language that heavily derives from mainland languages. And that helps, connecting the dots, as in this case and help me understand why the name "Matam" was associated with this tragedy.

After you finish watching this amazing documentary, hang your head in shame(just as I did) as an Indian for it took an Australian scientist to solve the suffering of our brothers and sisters and an American media house to bring this story to us. Gutter class mainland Indian media(CNN-IBN,NDTV etc) never reported this and boneheaded Indian leaders REALLY have no interest in our survival.
